Ivo Pervan

Biography

Ivo Pervan was born on June 24 1947. He took up photography as a hobby early on, during his high school days. After graduating from high school he attended law school for two years, but quickly switched from law school to business school, where he studied foreign trade. All throughout his studies he followed his passion for photography, and it was that passion that drove him to seek out the beauty present in the world around us, be it visible or hidden. After graduating he continued to work as a freelance photographer.

Since 1990 he has been closely cooperating with various tourist agencies and boards, winning 1st place in the 1992 world tourist poster competition held in Vienna, for his poster of the city of Split. This was only the first of many such awards, as posters featuring his photographs have won seven international awards for Croatia. In 1997 he opened his own photography studio.

A frequent motif in his work is the cultural and natural heritage of Croatia, as well as his desire to preserve this heritage and the history of his people. His efforts to record that heritage resulted in him frequently taking part in the production of various tourist publications such as brochures, guides, postcards, magazines, etc. Since 1995. around 3000 of his photographs have been featured on postcards of Croatia. As well as taking part in various heritage preservation projects, he has made considerable personal effort to that end. Particularly noteworthy is his project to document the various churches and chapels in Istria, Dalamatia and throughout Croatia. He has organized a number of slide projections featuring Croatia’s cultural and natural heritage. His collection includes over 200.000 slides, while his digital collection contains another 500.000 images.

During his career Ivo Pervan has published 35 photo-monographs and has coauthored over 100 more. He has hosted a large number of exhibits throughout the years, mostly featuring his work on promoting Croatia’s heritage and tourism. Since he started his own studio, his photographs have been published in magazines such as Cicero, Vox, Jet Set, Livingstone, Michelin-Editions des Voyages (France), Brandt Travel Guides (England), Krakow Partner (Germany) and Geo France. Also, from 2000 onwards Adriatic Croatia International Club has been featuring his photographs in their catalogue. Posters featuring his work have twice won the prestigious Red Dot award. His photographs have been a regular part of Inflight editions for Croatia Airline, as well as the magazine Yachts Croatia, in which he represents Croatian culture and the natural beauty of the Adriatic coast in his own characteristic style.
